Where else but Hong Kong?
Hong Kong is a major player in the watch & clock industry. From January to August 2008, Hong Kong's total exports of watches and clocks were already up 17.7% over the same period in 2007, reaching more than US$4.6 billion. This robust Hong Kong industry, with its close ties to the Chinese mainland, is the ideal setting for the world's largest watch & clock trade event.
Intensive global marketing
HKTDC has a global network of offices and representatives. To continue making each fair better than the last, this network is fully utilized on behalf of exhibiting companies to draw in trade visitors with real buying power. During the fair itself, buying missions from both mature and emerging markets are brought to Hong Kong - in 2008, HKTDC organised 64 missions from 49 countries and regions, representing 1,736 companies. After the completion of the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre expansion project in 2009, HKTDC will invite even more quality buyers from around the world to attend the fair.

Buyers' quotes
"For the last five years the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair has been the only fair we have attended for sourcing finished watches to sell to our 400 retailers in Egypt. Hong Kong companies offer quality products at good prices. This time we are looking for alloy and stainless steel watches and we've already placed some orders with our existing suppliers exhibiting here."
Maged Fathy, General Manager, Buren Watch Co., Egypt
"I've been coming to this fair for the past 24 years. Many suppliers whom I met through this fair initially are now doing business with me. I come every year because I need to know what's new and what's out there and also look for new vendors, suppliers and establish new contacts for future business opportunities."
Julio Waisberg, President, Watch-Land S.A., Argentina
"We are selling to over 600 jewellers and department stores, plus we have four 'On Time' stores in the country. This exhibition is very resourceful; this is my sixth time here and every year I can establish new contacts and find new products, it has indeed helped our business grow."
Donald Tappin, Managing Director, Simply House, New Zealand
"We organise an Indian trade mission to come to this fair every year. This is our fifth mission but each time, we bring in a new group of people. This year, we have 42 delegates altogether. For the Indian market, Hong Kong is the best sourcing hub for businesses involved in the watches and clocks industry. I think the Brand Name Gallery is a good concept to help highlight manufacturers as well as the brands. It is good to see it has grown to over 120 brands. That means more variety and choices for buyers."
Hemal M. Kharod, Executive Director, Tradepost, India
"This is my first time and I must say this is the best fair that I've ever been to. The venue is easily accessible; the event is well organized with good customer service, nice business atmosphere and useful information for buyers. I have already found some interesting packaging boxes, watch winders, and ceramic watches."
Svante Nilsson, Watchmaker, Klockmaster, Sweden
Gathering of big names
Branded watches and clocks are shown off to best advantage in the fair's elegant Brand Name Gallery, which enters its 10th year of highly successful trading in 2009. As the global market trend is more and more to design-driven timepieces in step with the latest fashions, the Brand Name Gallery grows bigger - 124 brands from 17 countries and regions chose the Gallery in 2008.
For the first time, the Brand Name Gallery in the 2009 fair will accept raw space participation, giving exhibitors the opportunity to promote their brand image to maximum effect. The new-look, expanded Gallery will be located in its own, exclusive, standalone environment.
During the fair, Brand Name Gallery exhibitors have the additional opportunity to bring their designs directly to buyers' attention. Parades featuring live models wearing pieces from exhibitors' collection attract the attention of the crowds.

Hong Kong Again Ranked World's Freest Economy
Hong Kong remains the world's freest economy, for the 12th year in a row, according to the findings of the Fraser Institute of Canada's "Economic Freedom of the World: 2008 Annual Report". It pays tribute to Hong Kong's unswerving commitment to free trade and open markets, and the elimination of barriers to trade and investment. For example, it enjoys low corporate and salaries taxes, no sales tax, and it is considered one of the easiest places in the world to set up a business - all of which make Hong Kong attractive to companies around the world that invest in or trade with the Special Administrative Region. It was also ranked the world's freest economy for the 14th consecutive year by The Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal.
